With Sporting having a free weekend just gone, manager Scott Adey-Linforth has provided an update to the fans…
“With us having no game at the weekend, I feel this is a perfect time to reflect on the season so far and keep you all up to date with things going on behind the scenes.
“As disappointing as it was to go out of the FA Cup so early, the free weekend gave me and the squad valuable time to rest and reflect on the season so far.
“Obviously, as a group, we’re disappointed with our points return so far, as we know we’re capable of so much more.
“Early doors, we played some of the leagues strongest teams and I don’t think we did ourselves a disservice. However, we know the three matches prior to the Banbury win were not at the level required.
“The Banbury win came at a great time going into the break and it was the first time this season I felt we looked defensively solid all over the pitch.
“We played with a real determination and showed what we are capable of. We’d been conceding to many goals of late, so I was delighted to come away with a clean sheet.
“Over the past few weeks, there’s been a lot of movement with my staff. I was buzzing to bring Batch on board – he’s a born winner and knows the level better than most. He demands high standards and I feel our personalities compliment each other well.
“Goalkeeper coach Ryan Pratt has decided to move on – we wish him all the very best and I would like to thank him for his hard work over the past few months.
“We should hopefully have some news on a replacement for him later this week.
“On the injury front, it hasn’t been easy. However, over the last few weeks, we’ve welcomed back Reece King, Ash Carter and Josh Ezewele, which has been a big boost to the group.
“Jordan Lyden is back training, so he isn’t too far away. Luke Benbow unfortunately picked up an injury prior to our game against Banbury, so we’re just assessing that as we go at the moment.
“Finally, I’d just like to place my thanks on record to you, the supporters, for sticking with us.
“It’s been a difficult start and it has hurt me and the group as much as it hurts you.
“We’re working hard every week to improve and I feel the Banbury result showed signs of that. We know it isn’t enough and we must use that performance to build on and continue to improve.
“We have great people at this football club, who represent this club and town with pride and they’ll continue to do so. There’s a great mood in the camp and we’re excited for the fixtures ahead.”
