Ahead of tomorrow’s league match, at home to Halesowen Town (3:00 KO), manager Paul Smith has spoken about the game at hand and what this game means personally. He starts by reviewing the start to the season thus far…
“Consistency is key to success in football, and generally becomes easier to find the longer a group has been together.
“In the four games we have played so far, in two of them, we have played and, very importantly, defended very well – a result of that has been two good victories.
“In the other two games, we have gifted sides five goals with poor decision making and a lack of concentration, and that has resulted in two defeats.
“Even if you get things right, you might still lose, but the chances of losing comes dramatically down with proper defending.
“The players can do things right – they have shown us this, but they must search and crave the individual and collective consistency that comes with good sides. Otherwise, we will continue to be this Jekyll and Hyde type side that we are at the moment.
“Tomorrow, we welcome Halesowen Town, one of the title contenders, to the UK Electrical Stadium, a squad stacked with very good players – ones that will punish us if we don’t do things properly. But, they’re also a side that, if we can click, we can definitely cause problems for.
“As management, we can only do so much, and as the players cross that white line, they need to understand that they need to take responsibility for their performances.
“On a personal note, I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone from the Yeltz. I spent nearly five brilliant years there, making wonderful memories and friends for life.
“Although the battle over 90 minutes will be fierce, I’m looking forward to sharing a drink after the game, and seeing everyone again.”
