Ahead of tomorrow’s home league match versus Leamington, manager Tim Flowers has spoken about the task at hand and high standards. He starts with reflections on Saturday’s victory…
The match that we had on Saturday was a really tough game and Warwick made it an extremely tough cup tie. They defended resolutely, they were competitive and they put their bodies on the line – as did our boys. It was one of those Step Three games where you’ve got to find a way – and we did.
We got our goal in the six yard box, which we managed to scramble over the line, and other than that, there wasn’t a lot between the two sides if the truth be told. We had some ball in our half but did nothing with it – and we have to look at ourselves a bit going forward. I know everyone thinks I’m miserable – but I don’t really care what people think about me or what I think about football. We do have to be a little bit better at times on the football pitch and make better decisions BUT it is eight wins in a row – it’s nearing a club record, but I’m not really bothered about that.
What I am bothered about is that Leamington will come and try to get wellied into us. They’ll have a game plan, they have good players and I absolutely understand that we have to produce our best.
I’ve been saying that everybody has to calm down and keep their caps on – it’s October 1st in a few days! We go to Bury and Bedford soon, plus Alvechurch away and Kettering at home.
But the truth of the matter is we’ve had a brilliant start – the lads have been outstaning – and I mean outstanding. The club has improved by an absolute country mile – everything about the place looks fantastic – and my job is to make it better on the pitch. I’m all about on the pitch – that’s all I care about.
We’re in a really good place – we’ve got some massive games coming up in the next four weeks and we could get torn to ribbons at some point along the way – including tomorrow night, unless we rock up, play with intensity, out run and out fight people – otherwise, as is the case in any division, get your coat.
Injury-wise, Dan Trickett-Smith may be on the bench and then team selection is up to me from there.
