Ahead of Saturday’s Southern League Premier Central match versus Royston Town (3:00 KO), manager Bren Kelly has previewed the fixture, looking at keeping standards high and building on our most recent win.
“This week, we take on one of the early season favourites to be there or thereabouts come May.
“Royston have had a similar start to the season to us, but do have a game in hand and are on the same points.
“They are an extremely capable team, who have a very strong squad. We will have to be at our best to win this game – it’s that simple.
“We also have no excuse but to put in the same work rate and endeavour as we did last Saturday, because if we can do what we did last week with 10 men for 75 minutes, it shouldn’t be a problem if we keep 11 men on the pitch.
“Although we have been dealt some decisions regarding penalties going against us that could be argued as dubious, it seems our lads have taken it upon themselves to provide and bit of a competition to see who can give the most away! But in all seriousness, our starting positions need to be better to prevent the chance of giving one away.
“For me, the lads must provide nothing less than everything they can because, if they don’t, they are all aware of how big the squad is and how the competition for places is fierce.
“Again, I ask the Sporting faithful to make the VG as intimidating as possible. The noise towards the end of the game against St. Ives was class – can we keep it that noisy and hostile from the first minute?”
