COACHES’ CORNER: Tim Flowers Previews Berkhamsted

  • Coaches’ Corner is sponsored by FUSO, Bromsgrove’s only authentic wood-fired pizzeria, built from a love for Italian cuisine and hand-made artisanal pizzas.

Ahead of Saturday’s league match at home to Berkhamsted (3:00 KO), manager Tim Flowers has spoken about the opposition, the squad and the importance of our amazing fans…

“After the Hitchin game, we trained on Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturday, I watched Berkhamsted at Stratford and thought they played well. They were in the game and, at times, they were the better side and a little bit unfortunate not to get something out of it.

“They’re a big, strong and powerful side, who have got a bit of pace in the wide areas and supporting the front man from either side. They have good physicality in both boxes and it’ll be a really tough game.

“What really stood out to me was that in no way shape or form have they thrown any towels in right now, so I would think they’ll be targeting us and we’ve got to make sure we respond to that.

“This week, we trained on the Tuesday at the VG and Thursday at the school (South Bromsgrove). We’ve show the lads some footage of what we’ve seen and done a little prep. We’ll then rock up on the day and see what happens.

“Miro (Pais) is suspended, which is a shame, because he was in good form. Keanu (Cooper) is fine after his knock against Hitchin. He has trained at every session since last Thursday and he’s good to go.

“Transfer-wise, obviously we’ve got a budget that we have to work within the parameters of. A lot of lads have left, which has been totally my call, in a short space of time.

“I’ve got to draw conclusions really quickly, especially given where we are in the division. I felt we needed to turn some bodies over quite quickly and it’s manifested in a couple of good results. Having said that, we now head into the final nine games still needing points – that’s quite clear – and we’ve got a very big game on Saturday that will be tight, nip and tuck, and I just hope we come out on right side of the line.

“I think I said after the Hitchin game, the support we have is wonderful, in terms of the numbers that our fans travel in. Hitchin was one of our further trips of the season and there was quite a few there supporting the lads.

“The vibe at the Victoria Ground after the St Ives game was fantastic. It was a real upbeat stadium after the final whistle, with all sides of the ground saluting the players, which is what I want really.

“We’re not going to win every game, that’s for sure, but I think everyone can see that the lads are pulling in the right direction and giving it everything they’ve got for the shirt and for the town, so I can’t ask for a lot more than that – although I probably will privately!

“I just hope the fans have enjoyed the back-to-back wins and that they’ll come in their numbers and support us on Saturday against Berkhamsted, in what will be a very tough game.”
