Chairman’s Farewell Programme Notes

Mike Burke

Well its been an interesting 7 years.
And now that the time has come to hand over the reins it is also the time to look back over those seven years, and reflect on what has been achieved. When you are busy in the present it’s easy to forget what came before.

I was asked on board initially just to look in to the reasons for the under performing bar, shortly afterwards it was an honour to be asked to become chairman.
At that time the club had a constant rather large overdraft and the team was playing step 6 football.

Now I depart after three exciting promotions and leave behind a healthy bank balance. (And the bar is no longer underperforming!)

With non league clubs, on the pitch has to be a priority of course, but that has to be balanced with ground improvements and maintenance, and at the VG over the last seven years there has been improvements such as the addition of a pop up bar, pitch sprinkler system, new kitchen equipment, refurbished club-shop and bar with new bar furniture and till and credit card systems. New mowers. Refurbishment of changing rooms. And there’s always the ongoing pitch and stadium maintenance of course.

Which brings me to a (non-patronising) ‘thank you’ to all those staff and especially volunteers and I have never taken them for granted as they have been crucial in the club’s journey from where it was those seven years ago to where it is now. I would rather not mention any names in case I happen to miss someone out!
You know who you are.

It has been a privilege working along side you all.
