This article about our U21s side, from Matt Tennant, reflects on their first win of the season and this weekend’s fixture…
Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s struck gold to secure their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Cadbury Athletic.
After putting in the minutes during training sessions and steadily making improvements on gamedays, Bromsgrove arrived on Saturday full of energy and momentum.
This showed when Sporting’s Alemi GM gave his team a storming start with a cool finish in the early minutes of the game.
Bromsgrove tightened their grip on the game when Cadbury nudged an own goal off the back of a Harvey Reeve ball to push the home side 2-0 in front.
A strong Bromsgrove back line kept Cadbury at bay for the rest of the first half but the visitors, who continued to improve into the second half, eventually slipped through Bromsgrove’s backline to pull one back.
The Rouslers demonstrated the potential of their full squad and worked tirelessly to maintain their lead in a statement win, which marks a significant turning point for the group.
Under-21s joint-manager, Mark Reeve, said: “With a full squad, the boys put in a great performance going into the break 2-0 up.
“We picked up the second half with the same tempo and despite conceding a simple goal, we pressed on, moved the ball well and should have added to the scoreline and been out of sight.
“There were some great performances this week and it’s difficult to pick out one individual. Jack Cooke, Harvey Reeve with an own goal assist and a great goal by Alemi GM saw us get off the mark.”
“Midweek training drills played a part in the goals, so it’s good work from our coaching management as well.
“Back to hard work again in preparation for this Saturday’s home fixture against Sporting Khalsa,” Reeve said ahead of his team’s next matchup.
Spoting Khalsa Youth have stunned so far this season with five wins, including three spectatcular clean sheet performances.
Khalsa’s best result was an impresive 0-7 victory on the road against S J B Juniors, which is reflected by their second place standing in the league with 15 points – just one point behind league leaders Stourbridge.
While Sporting may be a way off the front runners currently, its still all to play for, after last weekend’s win propelled them up to sixteenth, showing just how tight it is.
Sporting Khalsa will be looking to extend their win count on the road this weekend, but have an improved Bromsgrove unlocked the momentum to cause a critical upset?
All will be revealed on Saturday 27th September when Bromsgrove Sporting U21s welcome Sporting Khalsa Youth Development U21s to the UK Electrical Stadium for a 10:30am kick off.
