This article about our U21s side, from Matt Tennant, reflects on their latest match and this weekend’s fixture…
Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s showed key signs of improvement in last weekend’s narrow 2-3 loss to Boldmere St Michael’s.
Sporting were quick out the blocks, creating chances and taking an early lead when Jack Wyton scored inside the first 10 minutes.
It wasn’t long until the visitors responded with an equaliser and the two sides held each other level until the end of a closely contested first half.
Both teams continued to play well into the second half before George Gillon reclaimed the lead for the Rouslers.
An energetic Bromsgrove looked comfortable leading the game, creating opportunities and defending well for most of the second half.
But Boldmere’s resilience paid off as they levelled, before slotting home a last gasp third to end Bromsgrove’s hopes of a first home win.
“Sometimes results don’t reflect the effort or level of performance and I thought this was the case on Saturday,” said Bromsgrove Sporting U21s joint-manager, Stuart Carson.
“With players coming back and more to come this week, I thought the way we played for 80 minutes was very encouraging.
“Taking your chances at any level is key and I genuinely thought we should have been ahead at the break and even further ahead in the second half.
“As we have said from day one, it’s about learning and full credit to Boldmere for finishing the game stronger and taking their chances.
Despite the result, he remains upbeat, adding that there were ‘plenty of positives’ to take from the match.
“We look forward to returning home and playing on the best pitch in the league once again this week,” he added, as Sporting look ahead to this week’s clash with Cadbury Athletic U21s.
The Chocolate Men have enjoyed some incredible outings so far this season, including an emphatic 6-0 victory over Silhill U21s and a convincing 4-0 clean sheet win against Diamonds Academy U21s in August.
These results helped push the Birmingham-based side to 10th in the table.
However, Cadbury will arrive at the UK Electrical Stadium after a 0-2 defeat to Stourport Swifts U21s – they’ve not played since the start of Septmeber.
With home advantage and more players available for selection, Sporting will hope to continue their improved performances into this weekend and bag their first win of the season.
You can catch Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s face Cadbury Athletic U21s this Saturday 20th September at the UK Electrical Stadium (10:30 KO).
