GIRLS & LADIES DEVS – A REVIEW OF 2024/25
- Last season, the Girls section went from strength to strength, as part of the wider initiative to develop a full pathway for girls to the Ladies first team. The establishment of the female football pathway is an integral part of Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club’s vision for our female section.
NEW TEAMS
- The 2024/25 season saw two new teams join the Girls section. Firstly, new for the 2024/25 season was the Bromsgrove Sporting Girls Development (aka the Devs) who played their inaugural season in the Midwest Counties League (Tier 7) for girls 16+. This is a mixture of experienced players, supported by younger girls, who are looking to take the next step into adult Ladies football, hoping to function as an ideal preparation for the first team. Starting out with only a few players and growing to a full squad by the end of the season, they grew from strength to strength and finished strongly in midtable in an extremely competitive league, which was a testament to all the Devs hard work. For 2025/26, they have exciting new additions and are hoping to improve on their already impressive first season performance. They play home matches on Sundays, 2pm, at Studley Sports Club, Eldorado Close B80 7HP.
- Also new for this season was the debut campaign of the U13s – they were a new team under managers Paul Mansell and Tom Harris. Made up of a mixture of experienced girls and girls brand new to football, they finished midtable in an extremely competitive Mercian Junior Development League, which was a fantastic achievement. For 2025/26, they have added a couple of new girls to bolster the squad and they are eager to get going and improve on last season. They play on Saturday mornings at Studley Sports Club, Eldorado Close B80 7HP.
U18s
- The U18 girls had a successful second season at Sporting last year, despite having to rebuild the side from the previous season, with players leaving as they reached open age football. They have recruited well for this year and are looking forward to a good season. They play in the Central Warwickshire Division One at Studley Sports Club, Eldorado Close B80 7HP. They still have 1 or 2 spaces available to fill in this year’s squad too!
U10s
- The U10s started their second season at Sporting, however it was a bit of a hard reset after the coach and several girls from the previous campaign left. Sean Bullock and Sam Curson took over, with new girls coming in to complement the existing girls. All the girls have worked incredibly hard, and this has resulted in them becoming increasingly competitive over the course of the year, gradually improving consistently to the point where they are looking to be a force as U11s in the Mercian league, playing on Saturday mornings at Barnsley Hall, B61 0TX.
GIRLS TOURNAMENT IN JUNE
- In other news, the inaugural Bromsgrove Sporting Girls Tournament was held this year – it took place at Barnsley Hall on Sunday 22nd June and was a tremendous success, featuring 26 girls teams, in both the U10 & U13 age groups. Both the Sporting U10s & U13s did well in their tournaments and progressed to the later stages of the tournaments, giving a good account of themselves. Next year, the plan is to improve it, with more age groups.
NEW SIDES
- For the upcoming 2025/26 season, Sporting have two new additional sides joining the setup – these will be the U10s, under Sean Bullock and the U9s, under Tommy Thompson. Both will play on Saturday mornings in the Mercian League at Barnsley Hall, B61 0TX. These two teams are the result of the foundation programme, which is ran on a Monday night for girls aged 4+, and is designed to get girls into Football. If any girls would like to get involved, please get in touch, as we are keen to get girls via the Bromsgrove Sporting Girls FC Facebook page.
SUMMARY & FUNDRAISER GAME
- 2024/25 was a fantastic season of growth for the Girls section and 2025/26 promises even more. This would not be possible without the support and engagement of all volunteer parents, coaches and players, who go above and beyond, along with the generous sponsors -on behalf of the Girls section, a huge thank you for all your support. The season starts on 6th September.
- Dads, partners and coaches from across the Girls section took part in a fundraiser game on Sunday 24th August at Studley Sports Club- there were competitions, a BBQ and plenty of money raised for the Girls section, on what was a brilliant afternoon in the sunshine!
