This article looks at the latest results and news from all the Sporting teams…
FIRST TEAM
Our first team faced Leiston on Saturday, drawing 0-0. It was a game where Sporting dominated the play and, on balance, deserved all three points. This match ended Leiston’s winning streak of three matches. Next up – Stamford, away, on Saturday 23rd December (3:00 KO).
LADIES
At the weekend, our ladies were away to local rivals Meadow Park, where a win was needed to maintain their league challenge and unbeaten run. Our women won 4 – 0, playing some good football in the process. Katie Bonser scored a hat trick and Beth Breen added the other goal. They go into second half of the season with lots of confidence and manager Alan Horton thanks everyone for coming along to support.
Alan adds: “As the Sporting Ladies go into the Christmas break, we currently sit second in the league, unbeaten after nine games, and two games in hand on our closest rivals Malvern Town, who are three points ahead. We have a long way to go but I am more than happy with what the ladies have achieved so far.
“Our first game in 2024 is on 7th January, at the Victoria Ground, when we host Malvern Town, in what is a massive game for both clubs. It should be a cracker and we hope you will be able to join us. I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!”
VETERANS
The Veterans lost 4-2 away to Coundon Court in the Premier Division Cup at the weekend.
GIRLS
Bromsgrove Sporting Girls started in January 2023 and now consist of the following teams…
- Bromsgrove Sporting Under 18TL and play in the Central Warwickshire Under 18 Premier League
- Bromsgrove Sporting Under 18MW and play in the Central Warwickshire Under 18 Division 1
- Bromsgrove Sporting Under 9CR and play in the Mercian League Under 9
A FA Wildcats & Squad girls programme is ran and based in two centres, one in Bromsgrove on a Monday night and one in Redditch on a Friday night. There are approximately 30 girls who attend these sessions.
At the weekend, Bromsgrove Sporting Under 18TL played again title chasing Coton Green at home and came away with a creditable 1-1 draw against a talented and determined side. Under 18TL had to battle for every ball and played some lovely free flowing football, matching the opposition blow for blow. Neither team deserved to lose in a very competitive and skilful game.
Bromsgrove Sporting Under 18MW, a newly formed team this year, are progressing nicely. Unfortunately, the game was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
Bromsgrove Sporting Under 9CR; another new team, who are started in September. They played Kidderminster Lions on Saturday, in an even game where they more than competed. Either team could of won and a draw probably would of been a fair result. The management are super proud of how well the girls are progressing.
