LADIES
Sunday saw Sporting Ladies looking to book their place in the Worcestershire County Cup semi-final, as they faced Malvern Town on a very windy day. Sporting started brightly, putting lots of pressure on the Malvern back line. Sporting nearly took the lead on 15 minutes, when Amy Kendall narrowly missed the top corner from a brilliantly struck free-kick. This pressure continued throughout the first half, with Bromsgrove creating chances, but they were crowded out by a compact Malvern side. The pressure eventually paid off in the 39th minute, when a corner from Kate Bonser on the right evaded everyone and found the bottom left corner. Sporting kept on pushing for the second goal, and came close again a few minutes before the half-time whistle, when another cross from Bonser nearly caught out the Malvern keeper. Half time: Malvern Town 0 – 1 Bromsgrove Sporting.
Malvern came out of flying in the second half as they looked to turn the game around. This paid off when a good header from a corner found its way into the net, with Rosie Parslow very nearly pulling off an excellent save. 1-1 with 50 minutes gone. In difficult conditions, Malvern fortuitously scored a second from a corner which was somehow bundled in at the front post in the 63rd minute. Bromsgrove didn’t give up and tried pushing forward to snatch an equaliser, but struggled to create clear opportunities. As Sporting pushed forward, they were caught on the counter attack in the 93rd minute, with a calm finish at the back post. Full Time: Malvern Town 3 – 1 Bromsgrove Sporting. Opposition Player of the Match: Elle Higgins-Pugsley.
The ladies now turn their focus back to the league, with a home game (Victoria Ground) on Sunday 28th January against Inkberrow. Come down and give the ladies your support in their fight for the league title (2;00 KO).

VETERANS
This Sunday saw a bottom of the table clash between Sporting Vets and Springville at the Victoria Ground. The game started with lots of intensity from both sides, with neither wanting to give anything away early on. Some great play from Ashley Taylor in midfield saw him supply a great ball through to Jermaine Clarke. He slid a beautifully weighted pass through to Alex Taffe, who slotted home to open the scoring. Bromsgrove then started to dominate the game, with the back four remaining resolute with anything thrown at them. Taffe and Clarke then took their next two chances beautifully, giving Bromsgrove a 3-0 lead. Springville then dug deep and produced a great passage of play to bring the score line to 3-1. Bromsgrove finished the half strongly, with Dave Baggley scoring the goal of the game with a 35 yarder into the top corner, giving Bromsgrove a 4-1 lead at half time.
The 2nd half was all Springville; they came out fighting and played some excellent football but they were unable to beat Bromsgrove’s back line. In the end. Springville resulted to a long-range effort which resulted in a huge deflection from Mark Rollins to make it 4-2. Bromsgrove remained strong despite the onslaught from Springville and proceeded to score their fifth goal with a fantastic header by Clarke. A fantastic performance overall from Sporting and this 5-2 result lifts them off the bottom of the Premiership table.
Next game: Coundon Court OB, this Sunday, Victoria Ground, 10:30 KO.

COLTS FIXTURES
GIRLS
Under 9 Girls game postponed at the weekend, at home vs Kidderminster this week.
Under 18 TL entertained TGK at home and lost 6-0. The girls fought for every ball against a highly skilled TGK side, who pounced on any mistake to great effect. Our girls continued to make chances but could not convert them into goals, with the final score not truly reflective of the game. They are at home against another top four side, Coventry Sphinx, on Saturday.
Under 18 MW entertained high flying Lye Town and gave a good account of themselves once again. The final result was a 5-0 loss. This week, they are away at Coton Green.Â
The Bromsgrove Sporting Girls are starting to look at next year’s teams and would like to invite players to consider playing next season. If interested, contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951.
