LADIES

  • Decimated by injuries, the Ladies were beaten 5-0 by Long Itchington on Sunday. They borrowed players from our Development side (thanks goes to Alan Williams) and introduced new signings straight into the squad. They went in 1-0 down in the first half after having the better of the chances, but ran out of match fitness and were beaten 5-0.
  • Manager Alan Horton commented: “It’s not where we want to be, but we will bounce back for sure.”
  • On Sunday, the Ladies face Solihull Moors Reserves at the UK Electrical Stadium (2:00 KO).
  • Adults £2. U16 £1. Concessions/U11 free. Bar open.
  • Come and show your support for the Ladies, as they search for their first league win of the season!

LADIES DEVELOPMENT

  • The Ladies Development Team is the final leg of the pyramid into the first team, with a mixture of experience and youth in the side. They are still looking for a manager – contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951 for more info.
  • The Ladies Development side got their first win of their first season vs Welland Ladies on Sunday, 7-3.
  • They were deserved winners, despite going 2-0 down. They rallied, and scored seven without reply, until a last minute third goal for Welland. Our Devs were fielding four new players and it took a while to get organised – during this time, the very fast Welland forward line took advantage. Gradually, Bromsgrove started to make inroads and there were a couple of one on ones versus the keeper that were not taken. Not to be deterred, our Devs persevered and got one back through debutant Amélie Godfrey, assisted by Erin Williams. The same two combined again to make it 2-2, with Erin scoring this time. The second half started and Bromsgrove were 3-2 up in minutes – Amélie with her second, which was quickly followed by Erin’s second. Bromsgrove were putting constant pressure on and a quick fire brace from Natalie Walsh made it six. Not to be outdone, Chloe French, another debutant, made it seven with a long range effort. At this stage Welland, who were fighting extremely hard, put in a final effort and got their third from a corner.
  • They face Evesham United this Sunday (2:00 KO).

VETERANS

  • The Vets finally played their second game of the season on Sunday, as they faced SSS Lions at home. Sporting started really well, playing some excellent one and two touch football and dominating possession for the opening 15 minutes. This culminated in a well worked opening goal from Earl Jordan. Sporting continued with some excellent passages of play, creating several excellent chances. 30 minutes in, a great ball from Robbie Agar split the Lions defence for Earl Jordan to run onto – through on goal, the Lions defender pulled him to the ground. No hesitation from the referee – a red card and a penalty. Jamie McWilliams stepped up and slotted home – Sporting 2-0 to the good. Sporting made the man advantage count, with a great ball from Lee Woodward for Ashley Taylor to rifle the ball into the back of the net to put Sporting 3-0 up at half time. The second half was a pretty bland affair, with Sporting seemingly happy to sit on their 3-0 lead, giving up the majority of the possession to Lions. Fortunately, Lions were unable to capitalise and Sporting finished the game 3-0 winners.
  • The Vets travel to Coventry this weekend, for a tough away fixture vs Coundon (10:30 KO).

GIRLS

  • Under 13s vs Kingfisher Belles. 1-0 win. A very good performance, against a well organised Kingfisher Belles team. Bromsgrove dominated the game, playing some excellent football, and were rewarded midway through the first half following a good move, putting Emilia one on one with the keeper – she took her chance well with a fine finish. The second half continued much the same, with Sporting going very close with a well taken free kick by Immy – only to be denied by the crossbar. Throughout the game, the Sporting defenders were on top and made some excellent tackles. The final 10 minutes saw Kingfisher put some pressure on as they pushed for an equaliser, but Sporting held on for an excellent victory. They are at home next week against Worcester United Youth FC Girls.
  • Under 10s vs Kidderminster Lions. They had an exciting and competitive away match against Kidderminster Lions Youths. The first half was especially thrilling, with end to end action as both teams gave their all. In the second half, it continued to be a close contest – the girls’ strength and determination showed, playing with smiles until the final whistle. Their next game is at home to Newtown Sport.
  • Under 18s had no game this week.
