RESULTS: News From The Sporting Teams

This article looks at last week’s results and news from all the Sporting teams.

This weekend’s update (18 – 19 May) will be on the website next week.

FIRST TEAM

Josh Coney has joined Paul Smith’s backroom team – he has worked with Paul for six seasons as an assistant and goalkeeping coach. This means Matt Ballard will be leaving our coaching staff – we thank Matt for his efforts with us and wish him well in his future endeavours.

Josh joins John Snape (Assistant Manager), Steve McGinn (Assistant Manager/Scout) and Scott Adey-Linforth (First Team Coach) on Paul’s coaching team.

LADIES

The Ladies are still awaiting a date for their play off encounter.

For information from the Ladies’ team, be sure to tweet their Twitter/X account – @LadiesSporting.

VETERANS

The Vets are rebuilding the squad for next season, so any players over 35 are welcome to come to pre season, which will start at the end of June.

COLTS NEWS

U10s – a brilliant season!

Our U10s had a fantastic season, winning two of the CWYFL cups, as well as going through the whole season only losing just one game.

They then finished the season off in style by winning the Bromsgrove Sporting Colts Tournament.

Coaches Dan and Mark marked the team’s achievements by celebrating their season at the Victoria Ground’s Rousler Bar, with all players being rewarded for their endeavours, as well as the following players winning the individual awards…

Clubman of the Season: Harrison Branch

Parents Player of the Season: Luke Fountain

Players Player of the Season: Dylan Barnfield

Coaches Player of the Season: Lenny Jones

The U10s along with their coaches, First Team Captain Luke Rowe, Welfare Officer Iain Queen, and Football Secretary Dave Stephens.

GIRLS

Bromsgrove Sporting Girls 18TL

They played Coventry Copsewood away last Saturday and despite being in control for much of the game, they once again found a way to lose from a winning position.

They started well, knocking the ball around nicely and going into a 1-0 lead after 10 mins. It was 1-1 after Coventry scored from a rare attack. Bromsgrove kept on pressing and were rewarded with a second goal, but the opposition were made of stern stuff and rallied – Bromsgrove gave away two soft goals, both from outside the penalty area. 3-2 at half time.

The second half was a strange affair, as Bromsgrove continued to attack but could not convert them. Down the other end, it was a different story, with another goal to make it 4-2. On a hot day, Bromsgrove’s determination dropped. They still made chances but were hit on the break a few times and they eventually lost 7-2. Life in the Premier League is rough!

Bromsgrove Sporting Girls 18MW

They played Knowle Wasps away last weekend and were beaten 6-0. They played champions elect Warwick away this weekend, before Cradley Town away on Monday.
