GIRLS NEWS

Our Under 9s will have a special visitor for their home game against Droitwich Spa on Saturday.

Coun Sam Ammar, chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, will be in attendance to support the team in a local derby.

Manager Craig Robinson said: “When we first started, we had five girls for the Under 9s. We were desperately struggling each week to field a seven-a-side team.

“It’s taken a long time but we’ve managed to build a squad of 12 players – we want to get as many girls in as we can.

“It’s a great way for girls to become involved with sport, especially football with the way women’s football is going with the Lionesses.

“The reason I became involved is because my daughter wanted to play. I started helping out and I’ve ended up managing the Under 9s.

“We are looking for players at all age groups. We hope they can join and progress all the way up to the senior women’s team

“We’re looking to put a structure in place where players can join and eventually feed into the women’s team.”

Sporting’s head of women and girls football, Alan Williams, added: “All the girls teams have steadily progressed under the guidance of our FA qualified coaches.

“We have also set up an FA wildcats centre which is for girls aged from 5 to 11 and an FA squad girls centre for girls aged between 12 and 16-years-old which runs on a Monday evening in Bromsgrove.

“Recently we have also been awarded sponsorship through the Bromsgrove District Council and the Levelling Up initiative which is funded by the government.

“We are planning to run further teams next year and are looking for coaches to run the new side’s and players at all Age groups.

GIRLS RESULTS

There were no games for the Under 9s, nor the under 18TW. The under 18MW managed to get their game on against Premier side TGK in the cup.

Bromsgrove started the game brightly, with positive mindsets, and they held their own, given the opposition were a very technically good and strong team. When the opposition scored in the first half, Bromsgrove didn’t let their heads drop and kept persevering.

After half time, Bromsgrove came back on with more determination to try and score. They put in some really good crosses, but were unsuccessful in scoring. Despite a defeat, Bromsgrove were in high spirits after the game and are looking forward to their next match.

The Under 18MW are back in league action this weekend, at home to Knowle Wasps. The Under 18TL are playing Boldmere St. Michael’s and the Under 9s entertain Droitwich Spa.

The Girls’ set up are recruiting for next year and would like to hear from any girls who want to play football. Please contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951 for further information.
