It was landlords who claimed bragging rights over tenants at the Victoria Ground, as Bromsgrove Sporting ran out 3-2 winners over Worcester City.

Liam Lockett opened the scoring for Worcester 15 minutes in, before a splendid Richard Gregory free kick brought the scores level.

Kieren Westwood gave Sporting the lead early on in the second half with a cracking team goal, with Lockett notching up his brace soon after. Substitute Shaquille McDonald bagged the winner 17 minutes from time, showing some serious pace before coolly slotting home past Worcester's Trialist goalkeeper.

The match got off to a lively start, with John Pykett having drawing a save from the keeper before Worcester captain Aaron Birch could not get a true shot away from a one-on-one situation with Jono Brown.

The deadlock was broken largely due to a long ball catching the Sporting defence unawares, as Lockett picked it up, beat his man with ease and confidently powered home into the bottom corner.

The equaliser came after Gregory was fouled from a little over 20 yards out - he stepped up himself to take the free kick himself, which he pinged beautifully past the keeper and into the corner.

A seven minute spell followed where Sporting came agonisingly close to taking the lead, as the Rouslers really began to turn on the style; firstly, a wonderful team move was capped by Gregory clattering the post with a drive from just outside the area, with Thompson-Brown unable to get a true contact with the rebound, as the keeper held it.

The Trialist keeper then made two truly exceptional saves, these being from a ferocious Thompson-Brown drive, 25 yards from goal, that he tipped over with his fingertips and an acrobatic volley from Gregory that he showed exemplary reflex to by miraculously palming the ball over the bar, in what was a magnificent display of football all round.

Despite this pressure, Worcester almost bagged the lead in the 41st minute, as Demetri Brown latched onto the ball following a corner and had his shot deflected onto the crossbar and out for a corner.

Bromsgrove took the lead three minutes into the second half - after what was a delightful team move, which saw almost half the team involved.

Thompson-Brown, McDonald and Josh Quaynor all played neat passes to set up Gregory, who played Westwood through who, despite seeing his shot hit the keeper's glove, it still managed to squirm it's way into the net.

Five minutes later, the scores were level once again, as Sporting found themselves left open at the back, with Whittington finding Lockett from out wide, who slammed into the top of the net from inside the box to get his second of the afternoon.

Further sloppy defending from Sporting not long after saw Brown have a shot on goal but, ultimately, it sailed a few yards wide.

On 73 minutes, the winner came, as Quaynor found McDonald, who put the burners on and found himself one on one with the keeper; with consummate ease, he serenely slotted the ball into net, ensuring Sporting would make it four wins from five for pre-season so far.
