West Midland Police 1 Bromsgrove Sporting 2

Bromsgrove Sporting FC registered their first win in their second game against Midland Football Combination Division One side, West Midland Police at the Tally Ho! Ground in Birmingham.

Honours were shared in the first half with the teams going in nil-nil at the interval. Sporting had the best of the early exchanges with Jamie Humphries and Shaun Maynard going close but Police will be disappointed not to have taken the lead in the 25th minute when Sporting 'keeper Chris Mole had the post to thank for keeping a good shot out.

Both teams made several substitutions at the start of the second half and it was Sporting who gained the advantage on the 52nd when Jamie Humphries who had been causing problems for the Police scored Sporting’s first goal latching on to a parry from the police 'keeper who could only block a shot from a through ball.

Four minutes later and with his first touch after substituting Shaun Maynard, Richard Baxter headed the ball over the Police keeper into an empty net after the stopper could only parry a good shot from 20 yards by Paul Ross.

On the 60th minute Sporting's lead was cut back to one when their defence was caught off guard and 'keeper Mole was lobbed by the Police striker.

Sporting then had several good chances to extend their lead right up to the last minute when substitute Stewart James broke through the Police defence only to see his shot rebound into play after hitting the post.

Manager John Day said after the match that he was very pleased with the performance, especially against a team one division higher.
