Bromsgrove Sporting's pre-season ended on a triumphant note, courtesy of an impressive home win over Hungerford Town.
A brace from Nick Clayton-Phillips, together with second half strikes from Josh Ezewele and Luke Benbow, guided Sporting to their second 4-1 victory inside a week, having beaten a youthful Solihull Moors side on Tuesday evening.
But Saturday's win was different - beating a fellow Step Three side who narrowly missed out on the Southern League Premier South play-offs last season will undoubtedly give Scott Adey-Linforth's men a degree of confidence heading into their season opener against Bishop's Stortford, after what had been a difficult pre-season at times for the Rouslers.
The deadlock was broken 21 minutes in, as a brilliant run forward from Tom Edge allowed him to find Clayton-Phillips, who found the bottom corner with an accurate effort.
The scores were level four minutes later, as Tyrone Duffus, formerly of Gloucester City, headed home a free kick from close range.
Clayton-Phillips doubled up for the afternoon in the 29th minute, as a Jack Kelly throw-in eventually found the Sporting attacker, from which he volleyed home nicely.
Sporting stopper Adam Harrison had to be alert late on in the first half; Jacob Bancroft found himself through on goal in the 35th minute but he met his shot with a strong palm. Soon after, heightened pressure from the visitors resulted in more chances falling their way, including a close range attempt from Harry Williams that Harrison kept out well.
The 62nd minute saw a Hungerford corner result in Duffus backheeling an effort towards goal that was cleared off the line by Billy Shaw.
Sporting's third came just a minute later; a move that was kicked off by Clayton-Phillips saw the ball fall to Kobe Hall - he teed up Ezewele in the area, who beat a defender before curling a left-footed strike home.
The fourth was scored in the 71st minute, and was done in outstanding fashion. Substitute Benbow, from the best part of 40 yards, caught keeper Henry Woodcock off his line and found the net.
The final chance of the game went the way of Hungerford, but Harrison was equal to it once again - Kyle Tooze having a shot from a decent position that was saved well.
