Bromsgrove Sporting hosted Evesham United in what was Sporting's last game of the pre-season. After a string of losses dealt by higher opposition, the 300+ sporting faithful pondered that one victory to spur them into the new season.

Early on Bromsgrove dominated possession making sure they were first to every pass and progressed up the pitch very well. More notably Charlie Dowd whose vision nearly put Sporting in front, only for Will Shorrock to hit wide.

Evesham then played some counter-attacking football forcing a one-on-one scenario but the steady hands of Reece Francis denied Evesham the opportunity to get in front. Sporting again pushed on with R'mar Murray who crossed into Ryan Nesbitt but a lack of anticipation forced the former Coventry Sphinx top scorer to head the ball wide.

Soon after a handball appeal in Evesham's penalty area is waived off by the referee much to the dismay of the Sporting fans. At the other end of the pitch a penalty was instead given in Evesham's favour and was slotted away by former Bromsgrove Sporting star Sean Brain. The teams went in at half time with the score 1-0 Evesham.

Both teams came back onto the pitch and replicated the beginning of the first half with Sporting attacking in a threatening manner. Bromsgrove forced a corner which led to a defensive scuffle. An airborn loose ball was sublimely picked out and thundered into the top corner by Nathan Hayward, levelling the scores at 1-1.

Before Sporting fans could finish celebrating, a second penalty appeal went their way and allowed Charlie Dowd to step up and thrash home to put Sporting ahead at 2-1. Evesham didn't let their heads hang and hit Sporting with a wave of attacks. Reece Francis and his defence dealt with it superbly and kept Bromsgrove alive.

However on the left side of the pitch Evesham's Will Tunnicliff seemed to float the ball for a cross but a wayward hit bizarrely made its way into the back of the Sporting net levelling the game once again at 2-2.

Bromsgrove again progressed into the Evesham half taking many shots on goal, one in particular from prolific defender Aaron Roberts was denied and the ball came back into Nesbitt who placed it past the post. Soon after Bromsgrove got another penalty and this time Will Shorrock found the bottom left corner to send Bromsgrove away with a much needed win and a very pleasing team performance under their belts just in time for the new season.

With Bromsgrove's new signings getting on to the score sheet, there is plenty to look forward to. Fans will be hoping for more of the same when Sporting travel away to AFC Dunstable this Saturday.
