- As a National League team, this is Grimsby Town’s first Emirates FA Cup game of the season. Before this season, they had spent five seasons in the Football League.
- The last time they had to go through the Fourth Qualifying Round was in the 2015/16 season. That season, they reached the Second Round Proper, getting knocked out to Shrewsbury Town via a replay. In the Fourth Qualifying Round that year, they beat Harrogate Town (Step 6, one level lower) 4-1 away from home.
- Grimsby reached the FA Cup Third Round Proper in the 2018/19 season (then in League 2), before losing 1-0 at Premier League Crystal Palace.
- Ryan Taylor and John McAtee are Grimsby’s top scorers this season, with five goals each. The top scorer in the National League has nine goals, but no team has scored more than the Mariners in the league this season.
