OPPOSITION

  • 2024/25 league position: 17th (Southern League Premier Central)
  • This season so far: P17 W3 D4 L10. GD -25. 13 points. They sit 21st (of 22 teams)
  • This season (home league games): P8 W3 D2 L3. GD -8. 11 points
  • Last five league games: W1 D3 L1
  • Last five league home games: W1 D2 L2
  • Most recent league game: 3-3 away draw at Royston (Tuesday)
  • Most recent home league game: 2-1 win vs St Ives (last Saturday)
  • Sudbury are the league’s second lowest scorers (17 – only Stamford’s 11) is less. They’ve conceded the most goals, with 42, and unsurprisingly have the worst goal difference (-25),
  • At home, they are the second lowest scorers and have the second worst goal difference (Stamford the worst on both of these counts)
  • However, there are some positive stats. They’re unbeaten in their last three league matches (W1 D2 – the Royston & St Ives games, as well as a 2-2 draw at league leaders Harborough) and have the longest unbeaten run of the league’s bottom four.
  • Out of the league’s bottom four, they are the only team to have won three matches (the others only winning two). These were all at home – the St Ives game, along with Banbury (2-1, 6th September) and Redditch (2-0, opening day – 9th August)
  • The Redditch win was their only league clean sheet of the season – that means it 16 league games in a row where they’ve conceded, and seven consecutively at home.
  • The St Ives win ended a nine winless matches in the league (D3 L6 – between the St Ives and Banbury wins). Between the Banbury and Redditch wins, they played four and lost four in the league.
  • They’ve scored and conceded in their last five league games.
  • Heavy defeats for them in the league this season include home defeats to Worcester (0-6, 1st November) and Quorn (0-4, 23rd August) and away defeats to Bishop’s Stortford (6-1, 12th August) and Spalding (5-1, 18th October).
  • As mentioned earlier, Sudbury have enjoyed some positive moments this season, especially in cup competitions. They recorded home wins over fellow Southern League Premier Central sides Bury Town (4-0) and Leiston (2-1) in the FA Trophy before losing 1-5 at home to National League North Hereford. In the FA Cup, they beat Step Four Mildenhall Town at home (4-0) before losing 2-1 at Step Three Aveley.
  • Top scorer (in all competitions – as per their website): Marcel Lewis – 7 goals. He has scored in three of the Suds’ last five league games.
