Ahead of Saturday’s league game at Real Bedford, manager Tim Flowers has talked about the proposition and the task at hand. He starts with reflections on last weekend’s match against Bury…
The Bury game was an even match, played between two decent sides, and we passed up too many chances to win a game – that came back to haunt us. I wouldn’t say the quality of the goals we conceded was great, especially the first one, but it was a good game of football, with two good sides, played in a good spirit.
We’ve had plenty of great feedback from the Bury end about our club that puts us in a good light, which is a positive.
We move onto another immensely tough clash at Bedford — they’re top of the league and won every single league game, so everybody knows we go down there as second favourites, and I understand that.
They’ve got some fantastic players and a really good management team that have got them playing some lovely football. If you were based around that area, you’d go and take in a game of theirs all day long because it’s entertaining and there’s usually goals.
We’ve looked at them, but it’s stopping them that’s the problem — sometimes, in fact, attack can be the best form of defence, and we’ve got to go down there and have a go. Otherwise, we’ll get beat. If we sit back, we’ll get beat. We’ve got to try and put something together where we ask questions ourselves.
It’s two teams in the top three – in fact the top four play each other in our league, so there’s some really exciting games and we’ll be giving it our best shot.
We have a glut of games coming up in October; until mid-November, we’re Saturday-Tuesday pretty much all the way through.
I’ll have to monitor the squad – it’s a small squad, very tight, and any kind of injuries will have us bare bones – which we’ve had.
Kieron Freeman is looking a lot better and did train with the physio on Thursday – he looked okay so will come back into the picture soon. Jaden Charles will be out for roughly a month with a quad strain and a back issue, which we’ll look into. Other than that, we are where we are.
