Ahead of Saturday’s home Emirates FA Cup match versus Leek Town (3:00 KO), manager Tim Flowers has looked at the task in hand and his hope’s for a big crowd. He starts with reflections on last weekend’s big win versus Bury Town…
I think everybody with the club would have enjoyed our performance last weekend against Bury – I thought we were terrific. Obviously, it was a little bit of a slow start against a very good team – and when I say slow start, that’s with all due respect to a team that hadn’t dropped a point who started the game well themselves. They played their brand of football, which is expansive, and we just had to make sure we were switched on. We had a little chat after about 20 minutes and then I thought it pretty much evened out between the two teams going into half time.
After half time, I thought it was a very good performance – very fluid, very open, very creative. We didn’t ship too many chances, and created shed loads at the other end and we was good value for a 1-0 win to be fair.
It was a good game of football for the Step Three level – players moving the ball quickly, trying to play attacking football, trying to play forwards when they could and also trying to keep possession when they could.
Much credit has to go to the players because they’re the ones who go out there and play. When I go home, I always think ‘do I enjoy watching my team play?’ and yeah, I really enjoy watching the lads play. It’s a credit to them and they’re a credit to Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club – they’re a brilliant group.
We move on though – we’ve had a couple of decent training sessions and we’re fully aware of Leek. They’ve scored in every game they’ve played and they’ve conceded in every league game too. They’re fluid going forward, they connect, and if you stand off them, they’ll hurt you. The front three are decent in whatever shape they play – and there’s been a few of those.
But we have to stick to our gameplan and our shape and what we’re about. The FA Cup is always big for any non league club – we’ve both gone through one round and want to go further.
If you was to go to the bookies, I’d suggest don’t put any money on the 0-0 draw, looking at the way the two teams score goals! It will hopefully be a game our supporters will want to come and watch because it’ll be nice to get a good crowd in..
