The club was formed in 1992 as Barnt Green Spartak. In 1997 they joined the Midland Football Combination, initially in Division Three. In the 1999–00 season they finished in eighth place but were nonetheless promoted to Division Two.
In 2002–03 they were champions of Division Two and followed this up by winning the Division One title in 2003–04. This earned them a second consecutive promotion and a place in the Premier Division.
In 2008 it was announced that the clubs ownership had changed hands and the new regime would be changing the clubs name to GSA.
The club re-emerged under its original name for the 2012–13 season.
