MATCH REACTION: Tim Flowers Reviews Spalding Win

Following our 2-0 win at title contenders Spalding on Saturday, delighted manager Tim Flowers had the following to say in reaction…

Spalding are a really good team – they’ve got good players, that would pretty much get into any team in our division. We knew that before the game and we rode our luck a bit with a couple of chances early doors and they could have gone one or two up.

After 10 minutes, we really grew into the game, and created some chances of our own. The referee booked George Wynne inside two minutes and then he gave away another foul moments later – I felt the referee couldn’t wait to give fouls against us and then he tells Azza that it’s one more foul and he’s off – so I had a decision to make – to bring him off.

Other than that, we made some of our own problems in the first half with a lack of game management and discipline, but we did look half decent.

We won, and I’m really pleased for everybody at the football club – none more so than our fans, but also the directors, the staff and players.

I’m the most fierce critic in the world but, as far as I’m concerned, I cannot criticise any of my players from Saturday – they were outstanding from start to finish. They gave it everything, and there’s a great spirit around the place and a real togetherness.

It was a real coupon buster of a result – it was a wonderful effort from everybody, against an outstanding football team, with many players better than this level – and I don’t think they can have any qualms that we didn’t deserve it.

I spoke to many players approaching the deadline day – none of them really wanted to get their hands dirty and muck in with us lot, so it’s us against the world at the end of the day.

I thank the fans who followed us very much for coming – and I really hope they enjoyed the result. The big thing that came out for me was the spirit amongst everybody – everything you need to have any chance.
