Ahead of Saturday’s league match at Stamford (3:00 KO), manager Tim Flowers has looked at our opponents and thanked our fans for their support. He starts by reflecting on last weekend’s win…
Time moves very quickly in football but last Saturday was a good result. It was a win – we needed a win and we needed it quickly. Fortunately, we managed to get over the line and the coin landed on our side this time.
The game could have gone either way – we started the game well and had some decent chances but Barwell grew into it. We changed shape a few times and we scored late, which is testimony to our fitness, which is beginning to come to the fore. We hung on in there and Billy scored the goal from a good move – Tyrone flicked it on and Theo got onto it and squared it. It was a great result – and a clean sheet to go with it, which was hard earned and thanks to a great second half save from Rory.
We’ve worked hard again this week – we couldn’t train Tuesday due to the rain so the boys went for a 10k around Bromsgrove town. On Thursday, we trained on the pitch. The lads worked hard and they’re in good spirits.
We’ve brought three young lads in – Max Asante-Boakye from Sheffield United is a left footed centre half, Archie Duerden is our player after being released by Aston Villa, and Akai Bonnick made his debut on Saturday. In the first half, he got swallowed up a bit, but in the second half, he went out onto the left and did well – he looked like he needed the game, so we substituted him.
Now, we move onto Stamford, who are in a completely different position to what they were a month ago. New strikers, new impetus and they’ve won three on the belt. They’ve always been around the play offs, so this is a new situation for manager Graham (Drury), and this is going to be one hell of a tough game.
I spoke to Graham a few weeks ago and he was sure he was going to get out of this situation – and that was before those three wins!
We need to rock up and be really disciplined and strong. If not, we’re going to get run over the top of. The lads have prepared well and we’re going there to win. Back to back wins, in any division, are gold dust, especially with the position we’re in.
I thank the fans for their support on Saturday – a fantastic turnout for two teams towards the bottom end of the table. Most people stayed after the final whistle and you’ve got to enjoy your victories, especially when they’ve been few and far between.
