CLUB NEWS: Men’s U21 Development Team Created

Bromsgrove Sporting are delighted and excited to announce that we are setting up a new Men’s U21 Development Team, ready for next season.

Speaking on the new team, club director Iain Queen stated: “As a board, we identified this as a key area which the club needed to develop. It is essential that our Colts continue their pathway when finishing at U16 level.

There is a huge pool of local talented players who the club are losing at 16 years old to many of our neighbouring clubs in order to continue their development. Our focus is to create a platform to allow us to retain these players by giving them an opportunity to progress into our First Team.

The relationship between the Colts and the club has never been stronger, with Richard Gladwin, Jon Livesey, Steve Meredith, and their huge pool of coaches and volunteers working tirelessly to give our community opportunities in football. We felt it is essential to support them in bridging the gap between the youth set-up and the first team.

We have identified a short and long term plan for the club, which will support both the Colts and the First Team over the coming years. This is another positive step in what the club is developing off the field.

We are delighted to announce the appointments of Mark Reeve, Stuart Carson, and Ricky McNamara onto the coaching team for the new development squad. All three have fantastic experience in youth football and, importantly, are Bromsgrove based people.

However, what impressed me most was their passion and enthusiasm for the game. They have an excellent knowledge of youth football and currently run the Redditch United U18 MFYL team. Numerous trials, where budding players will be offered the opportunity to try out for this new team, will be held in May. Dates for these will be confirmed soon.

This newly formed team will play in the Midlands U21 Development League, which we anticipate will be highly competitive next season.

We believe that there will be no restrictions on when fixtures can be played next season, meaning we will have the flexibility to play on evenings or weekends. As well as supporting our Colts, the Development Team will also give any first team players the opportunity to regain or build their fitness if required.

The Victoria Ground will be the home to the Development Team and we have no doubt that the Bromsgrove Sporting community will come out in force to support what will be the future of our club.”
