UPDATE FROM ANDY MASON

Andy outlines future plans.

Hi everyone, first of all its great to be back at Sporting and thank you for the kind messages.
I want to let everyone know what has been happening and what is being planned within my remit of football progression.

We have had a very encouraging meeting with representatives of the Colts and have great plans and ideas to take forward.

  • the Colts will have regular match day mascots and weather permitting they will be taking part in 10 minute halftime, small sided games.each first team player will be ‘adopted’ by a colts team with the player attending some of that team’s training sessions.
  • we are looking to have an end of season youth tournament at the VG, more details to follow.
  • we are also planning to have a fun day, with the colt coaches playing a match against a fans team! more details in the coming months for anyone interested in being part of that.

We are also planning to have a Sporting Vets v ex professional Vets match. TBC.

For season 23/24 we are planning to have an academy set up and running.
Also for 23/24 season we are looking to have in place an under 21’s/reserve side.
This will complete a pathway from under 6’s all the way through to first team.

Because that is 12 months down the line, we are placing suitable youth players in to selected clubs at step 5 for the coming season.
We have dedicated scouts on board who will continue to monitor these and any other floodlit league players and report to me regularly with updates.
We also have experienced scouts who will be covering all levels of non league football, looking out for potential future Sporting players.

This is the start of an exciting future for our home grown talent.
If anyone wants to help, or have any input please feel free to contact me.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the VG in the near future.
Andy

In addition:
the Chairman is inviting all the teams that have won cups to parade them in front of the fans before the first home game of the season.
