Assistant manager Gary Birch spoke after Saturday’s loss to Tamworth.
“In the overall grand scheme of the game, the disappointing thing is, yet again, I think we were the better team. There wasn’t a lot in the game and we’ve created more chances than them. Clayts (Aaron Clayton) hasn’t had much to do all game, bar picking the ball out the net.
“Whilst we can keep saying there’s not a lot wrong, we do need to understand that games are coming thick and fast now and we do need to start getting points on the board.
“Coming away to Tamworth, we knew it was going to be a difficult game, but we can’t dominate the game for long periods like we did and think that coming away with a 1-0 defeat is acceptable. The lads realise that the first contacts in the box have got to be better. If you don’t win your firsts, you must win your second contact and we didn’t do either for their goal.
“We’ve got to stay positive. We’re creating the chances and we know we’ve got the danger in the team. When you look at the threat we’ve got in the team going forward, we should be doing better – we really should.
“Saying that, we do need to create a few more chances. If you’re only creating one or two big chances a game and you’re not taking them, you’re not going to score goals. That’s where we’ve got to be better.
“We have a lot of set pieces and we need to be better at them. We’re such a big team, but we need to be more of a threat at them.
“It feels raw and the lads realise the situation the club is in now. We don’t need to keep reiterating it to them because we are still trying to be positive, as that is the right way forward.
“There’s going to be lots of twists and turns from now until the end of the season – it’s very tight and a couple of wins can get you up the league, as quickly as a couple of defeats can drag you right back in it again.
“In terms of Coalville this weekend, I firmly believe we didn’t deserve to lose the away game by the amount that we did (4-0). There was a fifteen minute period after the red card where we went a little disjointed and we conceded the goals in a short period of time. That’s one thing that you cannot afford to do when going to places like that, with only 10 people on the pitch.
“We need every single player, from now until the end of the season, fit and available for selection. The lads know we’ll be working hard in training this week, like we do every week. We need to stay positive and look to win every game we go into.”
