LEGENDS GAME: The Chairman’s Message & Story

The following message comes from chairman Rod Brown, ahead of Saturday’s Legends game in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

“As we look forward to this weekend’s forthcoming game, the excitement of bringing together many former from Bromsgrove Sporting’s 14 years to date is building.

I am looking forward to supporting this game, in aid of an extremely important charity – Prostate Cancer UK.

This resonates personally with me, as I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 12 months ago. I received an early diagnosis and then had an operation to remove my prostate, which has put me in the fortunate position of being cancer free at this current time.

Like all men that creep towards 40 and beyond, we never believe anything will happen to us – however, 1 in 8 men will have prostate cancer in their lifetime. But, with early diagnosis and the correct treatment, there is a 78% survival rate (for 10 years or more).

So, although many of you will look forward to and enjoy the Legends Game, let’s not think it’s all about rubber gloves – it’s just a simple blood test!

Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer by driving improvements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support.

So, finally, please let’s all get tested as part of ‘Men United’, in our quest to fight this disease.

I hope you enjoy the game!”
