COACHES’ CORNER: Bren Kelly previews AFC Rushden & Diamonds

Ahead of Saturday’s visit to AFC Rushden & Diamonds for a league encounter (3:00 KO), manager Bren Kelly has looked ahead to the fixture, focusing on squad dynamics and the latest on the squad in terms of injuries.

“This week we travel to Rushden & Diamonds – it’ll be pastures new again for a lot of the lads, who have not played them before.

“It feels a bit strange to think we have picked up more points away this year than at home; usually, when a team goes up a league, it’s the home form that is good and they try pick up a few points on the road.

“So far, to date, we have yet to find a settled team – this is for various reasons, such as injuries, suspensions, unavailability, performance levels, holidays and, in my opinion, as a manager, it is certainly the case that the holy grail is when a side picks itself, due to consistency and good performances, week in week out.

“We have yet to get there this season; the squad is slightly frustrated because we know we are competing well and can match the teams in this league but it’s the finer details, the fine margins that we are not grasping yet.

“If we do, we will start winning more games.

“Liam Spink is still unavailable and Shaquille McDonald is a doubt, due to a jarred knee against Bedworth on Tuesday.

“Otherwise, everyone is available for selection – we hope to get a positive result for our brilliant Sporting faithful.”
