Bromsgrove Sporting U21 lost 3-2, after a last minute winner from Sutton United U21s.

Sporting had high hopes ahead of the match, following a six game winning streak, and arrived full of motivation.

This transpired onto the pitch, with the Rouslers holding their own against a talented home side.

They worked well and drove forward patiently, until Zak Parr delivered a finish with flair to take a 0-1 lead into the break.

It was a composed start to the second half from Bromsgrove, until they appeared to drop their guard and made mistakes.

Noticing the gaps, Sutton were straight on the scene and smashed through two quick goals in a bruising blow to Bromsgrove.

A loose Sporting side had to regroup quickly and take some risks. The team began working diligently again and they won a critical penalty.

Lewis Doyle stepped up and put it away, to get his team back on track.

With less than ten minutes to go, the Rouslers still worked for a win, but a sensational Sutton header in the dying minutes sealed losing fate in their final match of the season.

Under 21’s joint-manager, Stuart Carson, said: “The last game of the season saw us visit in form Sutton, who were going for second place in the league.

“After our recent run, we went into the game in good form. Sutton moved the ball well, but it was some good play by Ollie which put Zak clear, and he finished in style as normal.

“A few tweaks at half time and we started the second half well and should have stretched our lead.

“Then we switched off, which is something we haven’t done over the past six weeks, and got punished with two sloppy goals.

“Fair play to the boys – we made changes and a fine cross from Doyley, plus a brave challenge from Burg, earned us a clear penalty. A great finish from Doyley and we were back in it.

“We kept pushing but cruelly conceded in the last second, with a header off a corner. It’s hard to take and full credit to the whole squad, as they have given everything this season, especially since the turn of the year.

“We take our medicine, learn, and move forward. A good rest will do the group good and we will back for pre season – all fresh.”

In other news, there have been more Under-21s joining the Men’s First Team on the pitch, with Alemi Obey-GM becoming the latest development player to feature.

At just 18-years-old, the goal scoring sensation was called up to the Men’s squad for their final match of the season, against Real Bedford on Saturday.

Alemi came off the bench in the final third of the game and delivered one of Bromsgrove’s only chances in the second half, with a bold shot at the keeper, topping off a solid display in front of the enamoured home fans.

“Massive congratulations to Alemi making his first team debut on Saturday, and to Tim (Flowers) and Leon (Broadhurst) for giving him a chance,” said Stu Carson.

“He has shown great discipline and talent, so I am sure opportunities will come.”

Last weekend marked the end of another explosive season for Bromsgrove’s Under 21s.

The team bounced back from the below par start to the season, pulled together through tough spells and finished strong.

“Thanks to everyone who has supported us this season,” added Stuart Carson.

“The club, directors, social media teams, and our superb sponsors. Special thanks to our players’ parents and families, who travel every week. It is all very much appreciated by Mark (Reeve), Rosey (Pete Rose) and I.

“Time to rest up and we hope everyone has a great summer.”
