This week’s Wednesday Words comes from first team coach Kev Barry – he talks the win versus Welwyn Garden City, squad fitness and this Saturday’s encounter vs Aylesbury FC.
“Last Saturday was built as our biggest test and it proved to be.
“Welwyn came out of the blocks first 10 minutes and showed an intent to take the game to us. The lads rode that out and gave their most professional performance of the season.
“After the game, the dressing room was buoyant and the tunes were flowing; it’s important for us all to enjoy the wins and we did!
“All that said and knowing the lads, I am sure from Sunday afternoon onwards the lads would have put the victory to one side and shifted the focus onto the week ahead.
“Brendan (Kelly, manager) set a few fitness challenges to the lads this week and they have been sending their workouts through; we have a fit bunch that’s for sure.
“The staff joined in also, with Leigh (McCaffery, kitman) walking 7k to find all the lost footballs, I managed to get a good run in down the gym and Andy (Mason, assistant manager) drove all over the UK, so that took stamina in itself!
“It’s another tough test for us on Saturday away at Aylesbury, who put Dunstable Town to the sword with a 6-1 victory last Saturday. They were brought back down to earth last night when they were out gunned by Bracknell in the cup and suffered a 4-2 home defeat.
“Training tomorrow is when we get the chance to fine tune a few things ready for Saturday – already looking forward to it.
“Thanks again to the fans; what great supporters you are. Hopefully see a few of you Sat. #Rouslers.”
