In a new feature entitled ‘Wednesday Words’, a different player each Wednesday will discuss recent games that have taken place, plus a midweek look at the upcoming fixture, with a behind the scenes look at the team included as well.
Starting it off is Sporting’s Number Two and fans favourite, Aaron Roberts.
“Hi all. Firstly, I’d just like to thank everyone behind the scenes for working hard to make the ground and facilities ready for the team.
“On the footballing side of things, I think the start of the season away at Dunstable was testament to the pre-season program Bren, Andy and Kevin have put the lads through, as well as keeping the core of a league winning side last year and attracting quality that should no doubt be playing higher.
“Nerves certainly played a part in the opening exchanges but once we got that breakthrough, we never looked back and went on to score some really good goals. Travelling support as always – immense.
“Then came Tuesday at home and the crowd surpassed expectation yet again; clearing over 900 at this level after work was something the boys really enjoy!
“The performance and score line doesn’t do the performance justice and that’s considering the double figured advantage over Kidllington – nearly as many balls I lost trying to get that goal for you all!
“With 6 from 6, we couldn’t of asked for a better start, but as we know, it’s only a start and the biggest test of the season so far will be coming in the form of Alvechurch this coming Saturday in the FA Cup.
“A derby in its own right and a side and club run by good footballing people, with myself and Bren playing together there a few seasons ago.
“The game itself will be a tight affair in my opinion, with both teams having the quality to hurt one another. But I believe with the group we have now, which is gelling and enjoying being together both on and off the pitch, we will go toe to toe with them in search of the win!
