At our Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round game versus Leicester Road on 24th August, Newtown Sports CP Football Team were our guests; one of the team’s players, Freddie Wilkinson, wrote a report of his day.
Newtown Sports CP Football Team is a Cerebral Palsy football team, that also includes pan-disability children; it has been running in Malvern since January 2015.
“We were kindly invited to Bromsgrove Sporting as guests for the day, as our team’s close friend, Will Chaundy, is a keen supporter,” Freddie said.
Will was awarded the Worcestershire FA’s Supporter of the Year at the County FA Awards from earlier this year – read about that here.
Freddie continued: “On the day Ned Tranmer (fellow player), me, our dads and Ned’s granddad came to the stadium and we were shown around by Matt Foden (BSSS member).
“We met the players of Bromsgrove Sporting and Leicester Road, the refs, the chairman, and manager. We were also given the chance to take penalties (where I scored a lovely shot into the right-hand corner) and then walk out with the players at the start of the game.
“During the game, we sat in the main stand and enjoyed watching Bromsgrove win an entertaining game.”
Shaquille McDonald and Charlie Dowd both scored inside the first three minutes to give Sporting an incredible start to the game before a second half Matt Langham penalty ensured it would be a nervy final few moments for the Rouslers – despite this, we ran out 2-1 winners.
Freddie added: “Well done Bromsgrove and thank you to everyone for a fantastic day!”
We are so happy that our guests from Newton Sports enjoyed their day – hope to see you both soon, Freddie and Ned!
