Saturday’s Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central encounter at home to Didcot Town (3:00 KO) looks sure to be a cracker, with the visitors coming into the game full of confidence. Here’s a preview ahead of the match…
A month of massive matches for Sporting kicks off with a home match against Didcot Town.
Our opponents certainly command major respect – winners of their last four league games, they currently sit fifth in the division, with 22 points after 12 games (compared to Sporting’s 2nd place, 30 points from 14 games).
Didcot have definitely proved themselves to be a team to fear right up until to the final whistle – their current winning streak of four has seen them score a goal on the 79th minute or later in every game.
Their last three games have featured a 90th minute winner (2-1 Barton Rovers, away), an 88th minute equaliser and 95th minute winner (2-1 Kempston Rovers, home) and an 88th minute winner (4-3 Bedford Town, home).
Another interesting point – these three wins have all come since Sporting’s last game (1-1 draw away at Thame United).
There is something of a discrepancy between Didcot’s home and away form; they are fairly red hot at home (P7 W6 D0 L1), but have fared less well on the road (P5 W1 D1 L3).
However, with that sole win being their most recent contest away from home and their aforementioned winning streak (the latest victory being against the extremely dangerous Bedford Town), this will certainly be a very tough encounter.
