It was agony for Sporting on the cricket pitch between ourselves and the Bromsgrove Rugby team, as the Boars beat the Rouslers by just one run in the annual match, held this year on Thursday 23rd May.
The Boars opened the batting and got off to a reasonable start before Liam Spink caught Marc Cornelius off his own bowling for five.
However Will Colson and James Martin dug in, making 30 each, with George Amphlett also having a good knock of 29.
Jono Brown was the bowling hero for Sporting taking two useful wickets and restricting The Boars to 128 in their 18 overs.
Liam Spink and Jason Cowley opened the batting for Sporting and put 32 for the first wicket before Martin dismissed Cowley for 12, with Liam going a bit later for 32.
However Ryan Spink and Tony Potter, guesting for Sporting, kept the scoreboard ticking along before Potter went for 13.
Tom Rankin joined Ryan at the crease and got Sporting within sight of victory and needing five to win off the last over.
Three runs were taken of the first two balls before Ranking was bowled by Ed Spalding of the last ball two runs short. Ryan had the best score for the Rouslers and was left not out on 44.
Boars’ coach Dan Protherough and Rouslers’ assistant manager Andy Mason both agreed it has been a good evening and thanked the Cricket Club and its chairman, Nick Husbands, for their hospitality and making the ground available.
