Ahead of tomorrow evening’s Southern League Premier Central match vs Tamworth (7:45 KO), manager Bren Kelly has previewed the game, as well as reflecting on the opening day draw, an injury update and his thoughts on artificial pitches…
“Tomorrow we travel to hot favourites for the title in Tamworth.
“A daunting task for us, going to such a big club like Tamworth – a well established and well respected non league club.
“Following on from Saturday’s game, the lads are feeling a little disappointed but also positive about the 1-1 draw with Biggleswade, considering it was our first game at step three, and the fact we had two 20 year olds and one 19 year old in the team means I think they can take great comfort that we showed we can compete and we held our own.
“Tomorrow’s game will be just as tough, especially on a 4G surface which personally I think is having a negative impact on football in general, but I guess that’s another argument altogether.
“I have no doubt Tamworth will be looking to provide and great performance in front of their home fans, in their first home game, so we need to be ready mentality and physically for a tough evening.
“They have some exciting players and lots of experience, but I also feel this is a very unforgiving division and there will be lots of unexpected results and I hope we can create one of them tomorrow.
“We are without Tom Taylor for what could be 4-6 weeks due to a chipped bone he suffered on Saturday. Nathan (Hayward) and Leon (Broadhurst) are also doubts; however, we will approach the game with confidence and belief to try and get a positive performance and result.”
