Ahead of the rearranged fixture versus Didcot Town on Tuesday 15 January, manager Bren Kelly has previewed what is in store, as well as looking back at Saturday’s win over Kidlington and praise for our ever loyal fanbase.
“After a dogged battle down in Kidlington on Saturday, we are back at the VG to take on Didcot Town tomorrow.
“Another team cemented in the playoff positions and certainly one of the top sides in regards to the form guide.
“Obviously the last time out it was disappointing that the game was called off, especially after playing so well and winning 3-1 at the break against 10 men.
“I find it strange that the fixture has to be replayed from the beginning again but there you go – it’s in the past so we must just focus on the future and try repeat the performance from that day.
“The squad is very strong and fierce with competition; myself and Andy feel we have mixed it well so far and will continue to utilise as we see fit.
“I explained to the players that they will all spend time on the bench and sometimes out of the squad, but it’s important they remain focused and ready, as lots of things can change – like form, injuries, suspensions etc.
“A special mention for Liam Spink, who started his first game for us since his horrific injury.
“Talk about being thrown in at the deep end – the game on Saturday was just a pure battle with lots of big tackles, but Liam just got stuck in straight away and really put his mind to the test (and his leg) with some of the tackles going in, so I was delighted he came through with a very solid performance.
“We now embark on a real tough run of games over the next 4-6 weeks, but remain confident we can still pick up points.
“Along the way, without a shadow of a doubt, the Sporting faithful will help us – at our side through sun, rain, sleet & snow – you are always there and we are very grateful the VG has been rocking recently and hopefully they will continue to keep coming tomorrow night.
“We have also added to the squad this week by signing Kieren Westwood from Stratford Town FC.
“A very strong signing that will offer good balance to the squad following Will Shorrock’s injury.
“See you all tomorrow.”
