Statement from Brendan Kelly

After a busy and difficult week I just wanted to make a statement to everyone connected to the club.

First and foremost I would like to say I am looking forward to the challenge ahead. We are in a fantastic position and have a great opportunity of back to back promotions. We all know we would not be in this position if it wasn’t for the work Smudger did during his time as manager, his record speaks for itself and his love for the club is unquestionable. Whilst working as his assistant I have learned a lot and I will always be grateful to him for that.

Going forward I will do everything I can to complete and achieve the targets the club set out to do last July. I have sat down and spoken to the chairman and the board and I am pleased to say they will give me all the support they can in trying to succeed and continue to bring a exciting brand of football for our fans who have been incredible since the club was formed. It is vital the support continues for the club so we can achieve things together as one.

In regards to the squad I would like to clarify a few movements. Ahmed Ali , Robbie Bunn and Liam Holt have decided to move on. I tried my best to keep them but they had individual reasons as to why they didn’t want to stay and I understand why they have chosen to move on. I wish the lads all the best and thank them for their efforts whilst wearing the Sporting shirt. Obviously losing 3 players there is no doubt that I will be making signings very soon and I will update any secured signings via the club website. The rest of the squad are 100% committed to me and my staff and have not changed their ambitions of winning this league, and winning football matches is their primary focus.

I would also like to thank everybody who has taken the time to send me messages of support , it’s very much appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing you all at our next game.

Kind regards
